ArtReach commissioned a new short film from Michael Nyman that was premiered at Night of Festivals 2012. The festival took place 21-23 June in Old Market Square Nottingham.
The film, Witnesses, was given its world premiere screening during the festival’s opening evening in the outdoor surroundings of Old Market Square, and was introduced live by Michael Nyman. Subsequently the film was shown on a loop in The Space at Nottingham Contemporary for the remainder of the Festival.

“Michael Nyman’s rhapsodic score brings a heartbreaking immediacy to this story of a brilliant mind gone mysteriously awry,” said director David Schweizer, who has a long history with LBO. “The piece has everything - deeply felt emotions, humor and a haunting portrait of the fine line between mental illness and genius. Plus the intimacy of it, just three characters, affords a kind of behavioral detail that is not often seen on opera stages. I hope that audiences will really feel what these people are going through and what they discover.”
